Healthy Snacks on the Go!

by Danielle Dadig

Considering recent news, a lot of employers are allowing employees to work from home. However, that is not the case for every employee. Thank you to all those employees who are on the front lights fighting the pandemic that is currently taking place all over the world. Our employees are caring for residents who are at high risk of getting COVID-19 and they are doing an amazing job of taking necessary precautions to protect these patients. Our employees are working around the clock trying to protect the residents they serve, but it is important they still are taking care of themselves as well.

We wanted to share some healthy and easy snacks that can keep you full and focused throughout your long day of work whether you are working from home or not. A lot of people think that not snacking in between meals will allow them to lose weight. However, that is not always the case! If you choose healthy snack options with lots of nutrients and protein snacking can be beneficial.

Here are three healthy snack options to fuel your workday – or give you a fun new recipe to make while staying home these next few weeks!

No Bake Energy Bites

This is a great recipe because it requires very few ingredients and little time. These energy bites will leave you feeling full without hitting that sugar hangover later in the day.

  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/3 honey
  • 2/3 toasted shredded coconut (optional)

Once you pick the ingredients that you want to put it all in a bowl and mix it up. You can add as many or as little chocolate chips as you want but the measurements are there as a guide. After all the ingredients are mixed, pop the bowl in the fridge for 10-15 minutes to allow the mixture to harden. Next you will take the mixture out and roll them into balls!

Trail Mix

This is another great recipe because it is completely customizable to what you like plus it is easy to get all the protein and nutrients you need. We love trail mix because every time you take a handful of it you are always getting something different.

  • 1/2 cup M&Ms
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup cashews
  • 1/2 cup peanuts
  • 1/2 cup mini marshmallows

Once you have all the ingredients you want throw into a bowl and mix! The best thing about trail mix is you can put almost anything in it and it will turn out delicious. We encourage you to have fun and mix it up with this recipe!

Apples and Peanut Butter

This does not have a recipe, but it might be the tastiest thing on here! Apples and peanut butter are a great go-to snack because it satisfies both the sweet and savory taste buds. If you want to make your apples and peanut butter even better, you can always add semi-sweet chocolate chips or toasted coconut shreds!

Snacking can be fun, easy, and healthy! Especially during these uncertain times, cooking and baking can be a way to ease your mind. We encourage you to make a different type of trail mix each week and then you can have it on hand whenever you are running out the door for work or if you get into that mid afternoon slump sitting at your desk!
