When Brooke Grubb entered the doors of the Kimes Nursing and Rehab Center to start her position as a Rehab Manager, PTA, she did not realize the impact that this new position would have on her and the patients she would be working with.
The Kimes Community Outreach Program has been a labor of love the past four years for Grubb. However, she was not alone. She had help from therapy patient and long-term resident, Clark Midkiff, at the Kimes Nursing and Rehab Center in Athens, Ohio. She began working under the Blue Sky family in 2016 and shortly after arriving she was presented an opportunity to participate in fundraising events to help local organizations. What started out as a volunteering event collecting jars of peanut butter and jelly for Athens County Children Services has only continued to grow! The initiative really took off when Grubb noticed Clark was more engaged and had an overall better attitude when there was volunteering activities happening at the facility. Grubb immediately took action and started planning out monthly initiatives for Clark and the Kimes Community Outreach Program was formed!
Clark has become an “honorary” member of the therapy team at the Kimes facility and was even given a name tag to wear when he is working. His work includes his physical therapy activities as well as keeping track of the incoming donations for that month. She even created a tracker chart so Clark can keep track of his monthly goals and set intentions for the upcoming volunteering events.
Grubb has created a network with local non-profit organizations to further develop the program. Their collection efforts support domestic violence shelters, food pantries, elementary schools, humane societies, foster children, and child support agencies.
Brooke Grubb has continued to build a relationship with Clark as they work together to make an impact not only in each other’s lives but also in the lives of the local community.
