Importance of Contract Therapists for Your Bottom Line

The post-acute/long-term care landscape is continually shifting, and shifting, and shifting.. we are living in an environment where managing the ebb and flow of change is a must.  Whether it is the revolving changes around regulatory guidelines or amendments in reimbursement and billing practices, there is never a dull moment as a Skilled Nursing Facility operator. These changes impact many aspects of what you and we do, but one thing that remains consistent is the value that a leading rehab partner can bring to your organization and your residents.

#1: Clinical Programming Support

The importance of clinical programming and support from your contract therapy provider can be the difference in star ratings, quality outcomes, and reimbursement. It is imperative that facilities have diagnosis specific tracks for patients to ensure quality of care and peace of mind for the patient and their family. A therapist’s goal is always to rehab the patient to their best ability to function and provide support for self-care management after treatment.

Oftentimes, the clinical programs that are put in place are intended to specifically reduce hospitalizations for 30-, 60-, and 90-day discharges. This type of comprehensive programming is put together by clinical specialists who have advanced certifications specifically relevant to therapy in a post-acute setting.

#2: Billing, Compliance and Regulatory Updates

Under new regulations from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), value-based purchasing and patient-centered care is the new normal in the long-term care industry. Therapy providers complete individual screens to determine the need for therapy and collaborate daily with nursing and the MDS coordinator. Individualized patient care and assessments must be reflective of the care required for the patient and are being scrutinized to ensure that therapy is appropriate for a patient.

#3: Outcomes Reporting and Marketing Support

At Blue Sky, we leverage our software technology partners to provide quarterly outcomes for facilities, and to provide case studies for discharged patients and to support the admissions team with our marketing arm. As a contract therapy services provider, we provide several value-add services to contracts including the use of our marketing team as well as free educational seminars and CEU courses. We fully integrate with your team to ensure you are receiving the metrics and data you need to market your facility and services to the greatest extent possible.

#4: Therapy After Discharge Program

We have recently launched our In-Home Therapy service line: a program specifically designed to provide the necessary therapy treatment to patients either after their Home Health discharge or those without a Home Health episode. Oftentimes, patients are still in need of ongoing therapy treatment after discharge, which can help to avoid rehospitalizations and ensure the patient is safely acclimated back to their home environment. In a worst-case scenario situation, should a patient demonstrate a need for additional care, we can refer them back to the skilled nursing facility or home health agency they were discharged from. In-Home Therapy ensures a patient is cared for beyond their in-patient stay and that their functional progress continues.

Overall – there are so many ways contract therapists contribute to facilities beyond just providing therapy. The importance of a good therapy partner cannot be overstated especially given the unprecedented times we are in currently. At Blue Sky Therapy, we pride ourselves on all the added value we bring our partners in addition the highest levels of patient care and clinical programming we provide our patients.
